Clear Motions is the debut LP from Shades. With their echoey vocals and dreamy synths this quartet, hailing from Boise, Idaho, has been quickly climbing up our most played charts in the last couple of days, so we decided to have a quick Q&A with the guys:
Can you introduce yourselves, where you are from, and tell us your back story?
We’re all pretty much grew up in Nampa/Boise Idaho. We all met at different times in the last 6 or so years. We came together as Shades about a year ago and since then we’ve just been playing shows and focusing on writing new music for the future.
Some people have described your sound to be somewhere between Joy Division and The Knife, while other people go with Washed Out, Animal Collective and even Ratatat. What are some of the bands that have influenced your sound?
We’ve all had different influences from Mogwai, Portishead, John Maus, and Lot’s of early 80’s music.
With your new LP out, will there be a tour?
Yeah definitely! We’re going on a mini 3 day tour at the end of Feb. with our friends Finn Riggins and we hope to plan a tour this summer. Should be a good time!
With our site being called “music to have sex to”, how do you feel about people getting down to your music?
Use protection!
What are you guys currently listening to?
Brother Tiger, Pandit, Asher Roth’s new mixtape, Teeel, Gatekeeper, Sarin Sunday. Lot’s of stuff!
Clear Motions can be streamed for FREE over at SoundCloud and is available for download via Amazon and iTunes. Make sure to also check out Shades at Vimeo and on Facebook.
